Fresh Coast Capital is an investment firm that redevelops highly distressed, vacant properties in the Midwest and Rust Belt into working landscapes featuring tree farms, urban agriculture and other green infrastructure projects that revitalize neighborhoods, improve ecosystems, manage stormwater and increase land values.
In the wake of the departure of industry, loss of population and subsequent economic decline, many cities in the Midwest and Rust Belt regions of the United States are plagued with vast swaths of vacant, blighted land. Cities like Detroit, Gary and Youngstown have lost over 50% of their population since their peaks and are struggling to manage dozens of square miles of vacant properties with no near-term redevelopment potential. These vacant properties are a significant drain on the community, the economy and the environment; they also disproportionately impact the poor. Fresh Coast sees a huge opportunity to redevelop these vacant properties into attractive working landscapes featuring marketable crops that generate income, create jobs, increase land values, improve ecosystems and lift up communities.

We are an impact-driven investment and real estate development firm with an environmental and social mission. We were founded in 2014 with the mission of revitalizing post-industrial communities across the United States through innovative and sustainable investment solutions.
We work with our city partners to revitalize vacant and underutilized properties into green infrastructure and revenue-generating working landscapes such as tree farms and urban agriculture. Our team is led by a diverse team of professionals with backgrounds in investment management, community development, environmental science and policy, and tree farming. We parter closely with industry leaders in stormwater design and installation. Based in Chicago, we are a certified DBE enterprise.
Our working landscapes are currently located in: Gary, Indiana; Elkhart, Indiana; and Flint, Michigan. In Spring 2016 we will also have operations in: Battle Creek, Michigan; Youngstown, Ohio; Kansas City, Missouri; and St Louis, Missouri.
