Grant
Boxing projects for girls and young women to promote self-confidence and self-defense.
Summary
The Boxgirls International network links innovative projects around the world using boxing as a catalyst for social change.
Across the globe girls face a daily threat of violence. Boxing provides a useful structured activity to teach the girls and young women here self-confidence, discipline, self-respect and self-defense skills. Sports help them learn to relax, work in a team and concentrate.
The Boxgirls International network provides sports/girls projects from all over the world with
- a comprehensive curriculum to utilize boxing as catalyst for social change
- expert support by licensed coaches & experienced pedagogues to implement the curriculum
- a peer exchange network to teach & learn from one another.
To achieve those goals we work with existing local initiatives that seek to broaden their programs.
Social Impact
Boxing and self-defense training improve girls' strength & resilience and help them to better negotiate the urban environment. The skills girls learn in the ring bring them further in their schooling, family & career.
Girls and women who have sports skills, can solve problems and defend themselves change the climate of the violent neighbourhoods they live in by showing that females must be treated with respect. The girls and young women also go on to share their skills with their friends and families.
Your funds will go towards expanding the program:
- Developing an online platform to allow grassroots organizations easy access to existing material and exchange knowledge amongst each other
- Supplying community projects with boxing equipment starter kits - each training kit can be used to reach 30 girls a time, so with training 5 days a week we support a minimum of 150 girls in a sporting program
- Providing community projects with expert training on the ground
