Social Impact
We are particularly excited to be offering this project to you as it provides us with an opportunity to support UK schools while sharing the benefits of solar with a wider group of investors. All schools would like to have more money available to spend on educating their pupils and through Brighter Schools we can help them save on their electricity bills so they can put that money to better use.
We will use the money raised to install solar PV systems on the schools that have signed up to be part of this project. The schools do not have to pay anything to have the solar panels installed. Brighter Schools will be the owner of the solar PV systems and the recipient of the Feed-in Tariff payments for the electricity generated and exported to the Grid. We sign an agreement with each school to sell them as much electricity as they need from the electricity generated by the solar panels on their roofs, at a pre-agreed price. We set this price below the electricity price they are currently paying from their current supplier so they save money.
As well as providing a cheaper and green source of electricity, the solar panels can be used as a hands-on educational tool to teach the pupils about some of the key issues facing us today – such as sustainability and the effect we’re having on the planet through climate change. The solar panels offer a visual and engaging opportunity for the schools to communicate to their children the benefits of using renewable energy. We hope the project as a whole, including this investment offer, can also be used as a financial educational tool for some of the older pupils at the schools.
