Why we exist
Social investment can play a central role in transforming civil society, empowering more local communities, enabling more social enterprises to deliver public services and establishing more financially resilient charities.
Properly defined, social investment is the deployment of capital for social purpose - and which seeks a financial return (but not a profit-maximising one). This last point is often misunderstood. For businesses, profit is an end in itself. For charities, profit (or 'surplus') should merely be a means to an end - or to the fulfilment of a social mission.
However, the current infrastructure of the social investment market does a poor job of connecting the potential supply of such finance to the enterprises that need it most, so preventing a more sophisticated funding ecology from emerging.
SharedImpact was founded to strengthen the social investment infrastructure, and to contribute to building a robust social investment market.
